Ultra High Efficiency Chiller Plant (Daytona, FL)
Advantek engineered replacement of an existing constant-flow air-cooled chiller plant with a state-of-the-art all variable speed chiller plant integrating the best available technologies and products. Advantek worked alongside Cape Design Engineering (Cape Canaveral, FL) and Southeast Services (Cocoa, FL) to implement the design. Chilled water costs were cut in half, saving the plant over $120,000 per year. Plant efficiency is better than 0.5 kW/ton on an annual basis – including all parasitic loads down to the machine room lighting. The 400-ton chilled water plant has main and pony magnetic-bearing chillers, variable primary chilled water pumps, variable speed condenser pumps and cooling tower fans, and a softened Bromine / 100-micron water treatment system. The plant control runs software on six computer servers, which communicate with the BMS via BACNet to continuously adjust all operating parameters including all flows, temperatures, and pressures, to minimize plant energy usage in real time. Cooling towers were optimized during commissioning to achieve less than 1 degree-F wet-bulb approach. Advantek provided engineering oversight and fully commissioned the plant during the construction phase. Over the first year of operation, Advantek optimized operating parameters and performed detailed measurement & verification of energy savings.
